Firefighters in the Flagstaff area hope to keep high winds from spreading the Fisher Fire today. The blaze, about four miles south of Flagstaff, is being battled by 80-100 firefighters. They spent Monday tending to the fire in a steep canyon area, according to Brady Smith of the Coconino National Forest.
“There’s a lot of areas that the firefighters can’t get to because of safety reasons and it really wouldn’t benefit anybody to try and put out a fire on the side of a cliff anyway,” Smith said.
The human-caused fire began Saturday. Smith says the best thing firefighters can do now is let it smolder.
