Part of Northbound SR 51 closed from Friday night to Sunday morning

For the second weekend in a row, a section of freeway in the valley will be closed. The Arizona Department of Transportation says part of the Piestewa Freeway will be shut down for maintenance work. 

Northbound State Route 51 is set to be closed between Glendale and Shea from 11 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Sunday.

Traffic will be detoured onto Seventh Street and Cave Creek Road and reconnect with the 51 at Cactus.

ADOT says drivers should consider taking I-17 up to the Loop 101 to get to the North Valley instead, and that they may want to exit the 51 earlier than Glendale .
