Al Melvin plans to form exploratory committee, may run for governor

Arizona Senator Al Melvin said he is seriously considering a run for governor. The Tucson Republican announced Monday his plan to form an exploratory committee. Melvin says he is motivated to run by what he sees as a lack of real optimism for the future of the state.

“I’m firmly convinced that Arizona can become the most prosperous state in the nation, and I believe I’ve got the vision, the leadership and the integrity to lead that and make that happen,” Melvin said.

The third-term Senator plans to run on a platform of school choice and vouchers, tort reform and privatizing more state lands. Melvin said he will be running as a Clean Elections candidate.
