Bobcat attack worries experts of possible rabies case

A Show Low woman is recovering after being attacked by a bobcat near her home Sunday. Bruce Sitko of Arizona Game and Fish says the woman was bitten and scratched, but that the big concern is that the animal who was killed by a sheriff's deputy may have been rabid.

Bobcat attacks are extremely rare and when they do occur, it is almost always that they’re showing symptoms of rabies,” Sitko said.

Sitko says the last confirmed case of rabies in Navajo County was in a bat, in 2011.  The last case of a bobcat testing positive for rabies was a single incident in 2011.
