Census Report Shows Hispanic Voter Turnout Less Than Thought

A report released Wednesday by The U.S Census Bureau shows the number of Hispanic voters who participated in the 2012 presidential election was not as high as anticipated.
Hispanics are the fastest growing voter demographic, representing nearly 11 percent of eligible voters in the last election. But only 48 percent of Hispanic voters turned out last year, two percentage points less than their historic turnout in the 2008 presidential election.
Black voters had the highest turnout rate off all ethnic and racial groups. At 66 percent, blacks voted in higher numbers than non-Hispanic whites for the first time since the Census began collecting these statistics in 1996.
Nationwide the number of minority voters continues to grow and in 2012 constituted one in every four voters.
