A proposed wind energy project northwest of Kingman, Ariz. is one step closer to reality. BP Wind Energy wants to build nearly 300 wind turbines on about 50,000 acres of federal land in Mohave County, mostly controlled by the Bureau of Land Management.
The wind farm would generate up to 500 megawatts of electricity, enough to power hundreds of thousands of homes. Friday, the BLM released the final Environmental Impact Statement for the project.
“We think that it has been quite a successful project and quite a successful process," said Dennis Godfrey, a BLM spokesman. "Now, having a final environmental impact statement does not mean that the project’s approved.”
A final decision from the bureau should come in the next couple months. And Godfrey says to expect more sustainable energy projects on federal land in the future.
