Weekend forest visitors should be 'bear aware'

If you're headed into the forests this holiday weekend, you may want to listen up. The Game and Fish Department is telling people to be "bear aware," with spokesman Mark Hart warning food and food odors can attract unwanted guests to your campsite. He has these tips for avoiding the problem.

"Secure their food, clean up their camp, clean up themselves and possibly even change their clothes after they have been cooking and defiantly not bring food items into tents," Hart said.

Hart says the ongoing drought is a particular problem and he says they'll be closely watching the Huachuca Mountains, in southeastern Arizona, because of the number of problem bears there were in the Sierra Vista area last year.
