Craft breweries selling beer aged with Louisville Sluggers

Arizona is one of several states selling beer aged with baseball bats this Memorial Day Weekend, to help military families. The Phoenix Ale Brewery is among nine craft beer makers across the country selling beer aged with unfinished Louisville Slugger maple baseball bats. The breweries will sell the beer in bottles and kegs in their areas on Memorial Day.

The sell-off is part of The Hops for Heroes project which raises funds to provide financial assistance to military families. The fundraiser started in 2011 between two breweries in Seattle and Richmond, Va.

The tradition has expanded to include breweries from Florida, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado, California and Arizona. All proceeds go to local chapters of Operation Homefront.
