Arizona's monsoon season gets underway Saturday. State transportation officials are urging drivers to be cautious during the summer storms, by reintroducing their dust storm awareness campaign.
The public awareness program reminds motorists of what to do when trapped in a dust storm.
Arizona Department of Transportation says drivers should avoid driving in a dust storm and to be prepared to adjust travel plans when there are warnings of one approaching. And, if drivers find themselves in a dust storm, state transportation officials say pull off the highway and park.
ADOT also advises to turn off all you car lights, keep your foot off the break pedal, and stay inside the vehicle while the dust storm passes.
For the second summer, ADOT is sponsoring a Haboob Haiku contest on social media. Click here for more information.
