The voter-approved Arizona Medical Marijuana Act, allows people with a doctor's recommendation to get a state-issued card, to obtain up to 2.5 ounces of pot, every two weeks. Now, Dennis Bohlke is pushing a measure for next year's ballot to make the possession of marijuana legal for all adults. Bohlke is not dissuaded by the fact that 12 of Arizona's 15 counties rejected the medical marijuana issue, saying the polls show a lot more people support legalization of pot, than did in 2009.
"We've had Colorado and Washington push through, and people decided they wanted to try legalizing marijuana in those states," Bohlke said.
The measure would also alter drunk-driving laws, so the simple presence of metabolites of marijuana would not be proof of a driver's impairment, since they can remain in the body for weeks, after inhaling.
Supporters have until July 3 of 2014, to gather more than 259,000 signatures, to put the issue on the general election ballot.
