Arizona monsoon season could come early

Even though tomorrow is the “official” start of Arizona's summer monsoon season, a few thunderstorms have already popped up near the New Mexico border. Chris Outler of the National Weather Service in Flagstaff said the rains were spotty but could be a preview of things to come.

"We kind of have some mositure creeping in from Mexico around some high pressure that's built in across the Southwest. We are kind of on the edge of it and the better moisture is further east towards New Mexico," Outler said.

Outler said the monsoon generally appears in New Mexico first and then moves to the west.
