The US Senate is in its second week of debate on the immigration reform bill, and there is a lot of discussion taking place behind the scenes. Arizona Senator Jeff Flake, one of the eight who drew up the bill, has been meeting with Texas Senator John Cornyn, who wants the border security section of the measure strengthened, but Flake does not believe Cornyn is trying to jeopardize passage.
“I think they are mischaracterized as poison pills,” Flake said. “He’s trying to find language that can improve the bill and that can attract more republicans.”
Flake believes he can convince Cornyn to ease up and propose amendments the so-called "Gang of Eight" can stand behind.
