Last weekend’s high temperatures had Valley residents reaching for the thermostat. Because of overnight lows in the high 80s and extreme day-time temperatures, Salt River Project spokesman Jeff Lane said the company reported record-setting energy use.
“We set a year to date new retail peak demand of 6,473 megawatts. Now if that would have been 119 degrees on a week day, we very well might have set a new peak for our system," Lane said.
Arizona Public Service also reported high usage but no new records.
