High Speeds And Hot Temperatures Lead To Tire Blowouts

Summers in Arizona not only mean an increase in the temperature, but also in the number of tire blowouts. A new study by the Arizona Department of Transportation says tire shreds are the most dangerous road debris in the state.  AAA of Arizona spokeswoman Michelle Donati said high speeds and hot temperatures are the main factors.

"We see the number of tire failures increase during the hottest months of the year,” Donati said. “So, last summer alone, that was the summer of 2012, AAA responded to 30,000 calls for tire failure alone."

Donati said flying tire shreds cause one fatality every year and many other injuries.
