As Dean Peak Fire Is Contained, Homeowners Warned Of Flood

As firefighters wrap up work on the Dean Peak Fire, south of Kingman, homeowners are being urged to keep their eyes on the weather. The 5,000 acre fire has charred the vegetation in some Hualapai Mountain areas, leaving mud and exposed rock behind. Trish Carter of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office says the fire area is often hit by heavy thunderstorms.

“They are a little more prone to get the storms because it is the Hualapai Mountains and the storm, the storm cells, the clouds tend to stay in that area when storms move in,” Carter said.

Homeowners are being alerted that heavy rains could bring flooding to properties near the burned area.
