DPS Officer, Wife Face Up To 23 Years In Prison

A DPS officer and his wife face multiple years in prison after being convicted by a Santa Cruz County jury on conspiracy, money laundering and theft charges. Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne says Horacio and Carmen Lomelil were found guilty of taking checks from her employer, Nogales-based Sierra Seed, and depositing the money in their personal checking account, over a five year period.

“We put a lot of trust in our police officers,” Horne said. “They have the monopoly on violence. We expect them to keep the peace and help keep us all honest.”

Horne said each of the defendants faces up to 23 years in prison for each conviction.
