Newer Smart Phones Notify Users Of Amber Alerts

As the massive manhunt for a suspected kidnapper continues, so does an amber alert along the West Coast. The man in charge of Arizona 's Amber Alert Broadcaster's Association, President Art Brooks, says newer smart phones can automatically notify you of such an alert.

“There’s two alerts on your phone,” Brooks said. “One is amber alert, two is a federal notification of some kind, could be a terrorist alert or whatever. You can opt out of either one or both of those. Just turn them off.”

Brooks says you can do that in the notifications menu. He says the alerts are available on phones purchased since about January and that the system has been used only once.
