Search Begins For Cavazos Successor

The Phoenix City Council has voted to begin a national search to find a City Manager.

David Cavazos has served as Phoenix City Manager since 2009. He announced early this month that he’s stepping down to take the same position with Santa Ana , Calif .

Some had argued that with the possibility of new city council members being elected this month, it was better to wait to replace Cavazos. But in an 8-1 vote Wednesday, the Phoenix City Council moved to hire an executive recruitment firm to find his successor.

It could take up to six months to hire a new Phoenix city manager, but Mayor Greg Stanton says he doesn’t want a set timetable.
