International Adoptions At Lowest Level In 10 Years

It has become more difficult to adopt a child from overseas. The number of international adoptions has dropped to its lowest level in almost a decade.

The reasons for the decline are varied. Many families hoping to adopt are now going outside the international law regime that governs adoptions. And the federal government says they need to be careful.

The Evolution Of The Taco

Consider the taco. A corn or flour tortilla filled with something tasty. It’s a simple concept, but the possibilities are infinite.

As Americans have taken to the taco, this culinary import has been adopted, adapted and transformed north of the border.

“People think it’s kind of stagnant and there’s nothing more to discover, but there’s always something going on with it," said Corporate Chef Diego Galicia, who experiments in Taco Cabana’s secret test kitchen. "New peppers, new salsas, a new cooking style and techniques.


Kosher Tacos Debut On The Border

The Southwest border is a place where people and cultures collide and inevitably blend into one another. For El Paso artist Peter Svarzbein it was the perfect setting to introduce a food experiment that compliments his latest project.

He combined his experience as a Jew growing up on Mexico's doorstep to create a new twist on an iconic dish.

Breakfast Tacos: A Morning Staple Close To The Heart

In South Texas, the breakfast taco is a morning staple. Filled with eggs, bacon and beans, the breakfast taco is San Antonio's Egg McMuffin.

Reporter Joey Palacios takes us to one restaurant he's been going to since he was a toddler, where the tortilla is king: 

“The tortilla makes the taco. If you don’t have a good tortilla you don’t have a good taco,” says Lucy Cristan, owner of Cristan’s Tacos in San Antonio.
