Tijuana, Chula Vista Advance To Semifinals Of Little League World Series

It could be the border region’s sporting event of the year. Little Leaguers from Tijuana and Chula Vista are getting tantalizingly close to facing off in the World Series Championship this weekend.

On Saturday, Chula Vista's Eastlake Little League, representing the West division, will play a team from Connecticut for a shot at representing the United States in Sunday’s World Championship game.

Tijuana will face a rematch with the team from Japan to try and snatch its spot in the championship.

A cross-border showdown seemed like a long shot when the tournament began Aug. 15. But now it seems within reach.

Parents and sports fans on both sides of the border are buzzing over the possibility of a World Series championship played between two teams separated by just a few miles and an international border fence.

The semifinal games will be broadcast live on Saturday, and the World Championship on Sunday. Both games are on ABC.
