Three Market Workers Arrested For Cheating Food Stamp Program

Three people have been arrested for defrauding the food stamp system out of nearly $600,000.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne says the suspects all worked in the same convenience store in Phoenix and would allow a person to buy inexpensive items with food stamps, and then deduct a higher amount from their food stamp cards.

“This is a serious prosecution and we’re hoping this will send a message to others not to cheat food stamps,” Horne said. “It’s pretty awful to be a cheating a program that’s helping poor people get food.”

Horne says several agencies teamed up in the undercover investigation to arrest the three K & S Market workers.
