An update to a story we reported on earlier, the Salt River Project said Canyon Lake will be lowered over the weekend.
SRP told KJZZ earlier that the lake would be closed, however it is still open to visitors.
The lake’s water level will drop between two and half and four feet. As a result, part of the surrounding Boulder recreation area will be closed for maintenance. Tonto National Forest’s David Albo said low water levels are a safety hazard for boaters.
"Probably the biggest hazard is going to be for the boaters, they really need to watch out for underwater reefs and things of that nature," Albo said.
Canyon Lake is about 45 minutes northeast of Mesa.
