Inmate's Execution Set For October

An execution date of Oct. 9 has been set for convicted murderer Edward Schad. The date was set by the Arizona Supreme Court after an appeal earlier this year delayed the 71-year-old inmate's death. He was scheduled to die in March. Schad was convicted for killing a man from Bisbee in 1978.

Arizona has executed six people since 2012, which ranks it among the most active states in the country. Later this month, an anti-death penalty group will hold a legislative summit to discuss the pros and cons of abolishing capital punishment. Previous efforts to ban the practice have failed to gain much support.
