More than two inches of rain have fallen in some parts of the North Valley, which have lead to power outages, traffic delays and flash-flood warnings.
“We have a very deep plume of tropical moisture that’s moving northward through the state,” said National Weather Service Forecaster Jessica Nolte.
Most areas in metro Phoenix saw anywhere between half an inch and an inch of rain, Nolte said.
A spokesman for the Salt River Project said about 1,000 homes in Peoria and Glendale lost electricity Monday, but most of the power had been restored by lunchtime. Standing water has shut down the on-ramps to Interstate 17 at Greenway Road and has closed one ramp at Bell Road.
Sky Harbor Airport reported some brief 15-minute delays.
Meanwhile, forecasters said isolated rain and thunderstorms should continue through Monday and into early Tuesday.
