Ceremonies are taking place across the country Wednesday to remember the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Arizonans are looking back in their own ways including Phoenix firefighter Jack Johnson, one of the many first-responders who went to Manhattan after the twin towers came down to dig through the rubble.
"The dogs dig for the smell, and we'd be looking and digging around the area trying to find what the dogs had smelled, and there was still fire and heat, 350 degree heat coming out of the elevator shafts," Johnson said.
In Tucson the Northwest Fire District is remembering by planting two cacti side-by-side as a living memorial to those who died.
