Authorities around the country are putting an emphasis on child safety seats this week. They're reminding you that you need a safety seat each and every time a child rides in a motor vehicle. AAA spokeswoman Michelle Donatti says there's a good reason for that.
“The proper use of a child restraint system in a motor vehicle can reduce a child’s fatality risk as much as 71 percent,” Donatti said.
But Donatti notes most car seats are being used incorrectly. If you're unsure how to use the seats, she says you can contact AAA.
