Banner Alzheimer’s Institute announced it will embark on a new Alzheimer’s research trial with funding from the National Institute of Health. The institute received a $33.2 million award for research on prevention of late onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Pierre Tariot said the research trial will consist of participants taking a treatment to see if it helps prevent symptoms of Alzheimer’s such as memory loss.
“We will be administering a particular experimental treatment to these folks that blocks the abnormal processing of a protein in the brain called amyloid that may play a critical role of development in Alzheimer ’s disease," Tariot said.
