The weekend is over, and that means some freeway closures are also gone. That includes the construction work over the Loop 101 in the East Valley.
The Department of Transportation is closer to completing the Galveston Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge over the 101 Price Freeway. The one mile closure stretched from Chandler Boulevard and Ray Road where the bridge is located. The installation of a safety fence was finished by 5 a.m. Monday.
"This weekend closure was actually the last major restriction that we need for this project. So that really does indicate how much closer we are to completing that pedestrian bridge," said Arizona Department of Transportation spokesperson Doug Ninzel.
The bridge is expected to open in November.
