You probably know a lot about the summer of 1927 without even knowing it. Some of the 20th Century’s most noteworthy people did their most noteworthy things that year: Charles Lindbergh made his Atlantic flight; Babe Ruth made his assault on the home run record; and the first true "talking picture" was filmed, among other things.
Author Bill Bryson explores those events in his new book, “One Summer.” He’ll be in the Valley next week to talk about it. He said he didn’t intend to write about everything that ended up in the book.
Bryson will be in the Valley on Monday to talk about it at Dobson High School in Mesa. The event is sponsored by Changing Hands Bookstore and the Arizona Republic.
