The first version of the Arizona State Fair took place in 1884. 129 years later, this year’s fair is all about the bacon. Arizona State Fair’s Kristy Walsh said this year there is an entire food stand devoted to all things bacon.
“Beer battered bacon, we’ve got bacon truffle Gouda fries and we’ve got cheesy bacon bombs. We’ve got all kinds of things, bacon wrapped turkey legs. Even another stand that has bacon flavored cotton candy," Walsh said.
Pigs have been attending the fair since it started as a livestock and agricultural territorial fair in 1880s. Back then it served as an industry gathering for the agricultural community.
The fair starts Friday night at the Arizona State Fairgrounds and runs through Nov. 3.
