FWD.us
From the website of FWD.us, a tech-based lobbying group supporting comprehensive immigration reform.
Some of the internet's biggest names are gathering to try and compel Congress to pass an immigration reform plan. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently joined other Silicon Valley entrepreneurs at companies such as LinkedIn, Dropbox, and Intel.
They're setting up "hack-a-thons," advertising – presumably on their social media platforms – and sending fly-ins into Washington, D.C. to press for reform.
The hack-a-thon will be held at LinkedIn's headquarters and will feature young immigrants whose families brought them to the U.S. illegally.
Political advocacy group FWD.us —supported by Zuckerberg and tech industry giants such as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer and Dropbox CEO Drew Houston, among others — will also join in by applying pressure on Republican lawmakers.
Meanwhile, local activist groups are planning a week of escalation that will target House Speaker John Boehner and 28 Republican lawmakers. Politico's story notes that while Boehner has fronted optimism about a reform, House Republicans have not.
And as Mother Jones notes here, Silicon Valley aside, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce isn't pressing for reform.
