Robert Glen Jones Jr. was executed on October 23, 2013 after attempts to appeal failed.

The state of Arizona has executed its second death row inmate this month. The U.S. Supreme Court denied the man’s final appeals Wednesday morning.

43-year-old Robert Glen Jones Jr. was convicted on six counts of first-degree murder in shootings at a Tucson smoke shop in May 1996 and at a social club two weeks later. Attorneys for Jones argued he was not well represented at trial and that a prosecutor withheld evidence. They asked the high court for a stay of execution and a rehearing in the case.

Both those requests were denied in brief orders released without comment about 90 minutes before the scheduled execution. Jones was put to death by lethal injection shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the state prison in Florence.
