New numbers from the Arizona Secretary of State’s office show the state has fewer registered voters overall now than earlier this year.
The latest count finds just more than 3.2 million registered voters in Arizona. That is down almost 3,100 from July. Both major parties lost voters, but there was an increase of almost 14,000 voters either registered as independents or without a party preference. They now make up about 34 percent of all registered voters in the state.
There are 1.1 million registered Republicans, about 35 percent and down about 9,300 voters from July. There are about 964,000 registered Democrats in Arizona that make up about 30 percent of the electorate and down about 8,500 voters from the last report.
Of Arizona’s nine Congressional districts, Republicans outnumber Democrats in five, Democrats outnumber Republicans in three and Independents outnumber both parties in one. That is the new ninth district, which includes parts of Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Phoenix and Scottsdale.
