New Cold Case Partnership Solves 32-Year-Old Murder Case

A new cold case partnership is being credited with solving a 32-year-old Phoenix murder case.  Chief Daniel Garcia says 21st century technology has helped law enforcement locate the man they believe murdered 28-year-old Karen Casanova back in 1982.

Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery says while the case may be the first for the partnership, it will not be the last.

“For so many families who’ve lost loved ones the questions surrounding the who, the why, the where, the when, the how, are questions that haunt them over the years and in some instances, the decades,” Montgomery said.

Police caught up with 56-year-old Teodoro Corrella in July, after he failed to register as a sex offender. Cassanova was killed, her body dumped in a field in South Phoenix in 1982.  Corrella has been indicted for first degree murder.
