Arizona Police Officers Head To D.C. For Sex Trafficking Training

Dozens of Arizona law enforcement officers are in D.C. this week. The group is there for special training on sex trafficking.

Twenty-nine police officers from several Arizona police departments will attend the three day training. The conference will focus on how to identify and arrest sex traffickers, pimps and those who solicit prostitutes. Officers will learn investigative training tools like how to set up sex buyer stings, how to identify teens used for sex trading and the role of gangs in child sex exploitation.

Katie Resendiz is with TRUST, an anti-sex trafficking agency. She said Arizona will be the largest delegation in attendance.

"Last year five individuals from Arizona went to the training and were really able to provide training for their team members across the board. So this year when we looked to train 30 it’s really about increasing the knowledge, the more training we can get out there, the more victims we can help," said Resendiz.

Resendiz said representatives from the Tohono O’odham Nation, three counties and Arizona State University police will be among those in Washington.
