Students Injured In Chemistry Lab Fire

A chemistry experiment gone wrong ended with injuries to three Avondale high school students. Police spokesman Brandon Busse says it happened Tuesday afternoon at La Joya Community High School.

“Students were in the chem lab conducting an experiment,” Busse said. “Apparently during the experiment whatever they were working on ignited, which burned three students.”

Busse says two of the students were taken to a nearby burn unit, a third was transported to a nearby hospital by her parents. Another student and a teacher suffered minor injuries but refused treatment.
