State Board Of Education Gets A New Executive Director

The state Board of Education is getting a new leader. The board has appointed Christine Thompson to replace Vince Yanez, as executive director. Yanez is leaving to take a post with the Arizona Community Foundation.

Thompson has been deputy director of the Board of Education. She previously served as a lobbyist for the state Board of Regents and before that the State Bar of Arizona.

The Board of Education regulates the state’s public school system. Its 11 members include the state superintendent of public instruction, a university or state college president, a president or chancellor of a community college district and four lay members, among others.

The board members are appointed by the governor.
