The state DUI Task Force is working to keep drunk drivers off the roads through the holidays. Marana Police Chief Terry Rozema says enforcing the DUI statutes is not always a pretty sight.
“When you have to arrest a guy who’s 220 pounds and he’s a .20, and one minute he’s crying and saying he’s sorry and the next minute he wants to rip your head off and kill your family, that’s not a pleasant experience,” Rozema said.
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety says in addition to more officers on the streets, they will be using 146 message boards across the state to deliver the message ‘Drive Hammered, Get Nailed,’ during critical periods.
The Office of Highway Safety funds many of the extra officers and pays for equipment, like the preliminary breath test devices and mobile DUI processing vans they use.
