Arpaio Wants Jailed Veterans To Get Special Treatment

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said veterans in the county jails are going to get special treatment. The sheriff said he is allocating a portion of one of the jails for veterans who are inmates.

“I’m not gonna justify their criminal activity. On the other hand, there was a lot of ‘em had problems when they came back," Arpaio said.

Under the Incarcerated Veterans Assistance Program, the sheriff said the inmates can take advantage of mental health and substance abuse education programs and can get housing assistance and job training when they are released.
