The top game being developed by the defunct video game company of former Diamondbacks pitcher Curt Schilling failed to sell at an auction this week.
The company, 38 Studios, is developing what it says is a “massively multiplayer” video game, in Providence, RI, but only two pieces of intellectual property were sold during the auction, at a price of $320,000. Richard Land, the receiver for 38 Studios, said he will continue negotiating with interested parties, in hopes of selling that game and other remaining assets.
Schilling’s company is developing the game with the help of a $75 million loan guarantee from Rhode Island’s economic development agency. Because of the company’s bankruptcy, the state is responsible for some $90 million related to the deal. As a result, Schilling and others are facing a lawsuit that claims they deceived the state Economic Development Corporation into backing the loan.
