Former Fiesta Bowl Leader Asks For Sentencing Delay

The former leader of the Fiesta Bowl, John Junker, is asking for another delay in his sentencing on a federal court conviction in a campaign-finance scheme.

Junker’s lawyer is asking that the Jan. 13 sentencing date be moved to May, saying prosecutors want more pre-sentencing cooperation from Junker, including in a criminal case involving a former Fiesta Bowl lobbyist.  Federal prosecutors say they agree with the delay but may not okay future delay requests.

Junker told authorities he conspired with others to ask bowl employees to make campaign contributions. In addition to the federal court sentencing, Junker is awaiting sentencing on a state felony charge of soliciting a fraudulent scheme.

His sentencing on both the state and federal charges has been delayed several times.
