Litter Of Lions Born At Reid Park Zoo In Tucson

Tucson ’s Reid Park Zoo is celebrating the birth of a litter of lions. Spokeswoman Kirsten Metzger explains how zookeepers learned about the births late last month.

“The lion keeper heard vocalizations from inside the lion night house and knew that cubs had been born,” Metzger said. “She was able to confirm by the end of the day that there were four different sounds, and originally five cubs were born but unfortunately one didn’t survive.”

Metzger says it will be a while before the cubs are introduced to the public. In an effort to make sure there is as little stress on the mother and cubs as possible, she says it will be 6-8 weeks before the cubs are put on exhibit.
