Maricopa County Supervisors To Elect New Chair

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will elect a new chair for the five member board Wednesday. Following the retirement and resignation of three members last year, the board has three new faces.

Since Supervisor Andy Kunasek just served as chairman, one of the three new members is expected to be approved. This will be the first time since 2005 that a new supervisor will serve as chairman.

Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, is the lone Democrat, serving 21 years on the Republican-dominated board. She has never been chairwoman.

Al Macias, former KJZZ news director, retired as KJZZ's news director in 2022. He rejoined the station as a features reporter in 2023 and also as a part-time editor in 2024.
