Border Patrol agents in southern Arizona have shut down another drug-smuggling tunnel in Nogales before it could be completed. Spokeswoman Nicole Ballistera says the tunnel was discovered during a routine patrol by officers from both countries to disrupt the cartels in any way possible.
“They were in the drainage tunnel and they had seen some disturbed dirt,” Ballistera said. “What had appeared to be dirt that was different from the dirt in the surrounding area.”
Ballistera says the tunnel extended only about seven feet into Mexico but was 133 feet into the U.S. She says, however, the unfinished tunnel had no opening into the United States .
