Comprehensive immigration reform was supposed to become a reality in 2013. The Senate’s bipartisan Gang of 8 worked with union and business groups in the attempt to find compromise, and the plan got through the overall body, but the House clamped down, with some conservatives saying they were not interested in reform at all, while others thought some steps might be acceptable.
Now it is 2014, and to credit Yogi Berra, it feels like déjà vu all over again. House Speaker John Boehner wants his caucus to consider a piecemeal approach, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue said his organization is going to pull out all the stops to finally get immigration reform fully enacted.
