The Tempe Fire Department is changing its name. It will now be called the Tempe Fire, Medical, Rescue Department.
City officials said the new name better represents the services the agency provides. According to the city, in 2013, more than 79 percent of the emergency calls Tempe Fire received were for medical-related problems.
Officials said it will take about five years for the city to change the name on everything. The price for the name change is estimated at $10,000 over five years. Services will remain the same.
