Gov. Jan Brewer addressed the Arizona House and Senate during her 2014 State of the State address where she announced the separation of Child Protective Services.

In her State of the State address on Monday, Gov. Jan Brewer announced she had started the process of separating Child Protective Services from the Department of Economic Security. Arizona is not alone in this. Several states have stand-alone child welfare agencies.

Linda Spears with the Child Welfare League of America called Arizona’s move a good first step but only a first step. She is vice president of Policy, Programs and Public Affairs at the Child Welfare League of America.
