A rather unusual seizure occured at the Nogales Port of Entry. Customs and Border Protection officers have seized a mask that was supposed to be a cure for insomnia. The Port’s Agriculture Manager Tracy Fillipi said the mask was obtained from a native healer in Mexico.
“The mask itself had chicken blood and chicken feathers and therefore there was a potential risk of spreading avian diseases," said Fillipi.
Fillipi said there was no penalty issued for the seizure but that the mask was incinerated because of concerns it could be carrying diseases that would affect the U.S. chicken population.
