A bill limiting media access to autopsy pictures and other information gets its first test this week at the state capitol.
Prescott Republican Rep. Karen Fann says the idea is to take the media pressure away from medical examiners by forcing requests for pictures to go through a judge.
“The county medical examiners do not need to be stuck in the middle of this,” Fann said. “Many of them are just on contract. They’re doctors, or on contract with county. They’re not even a county employee.”
Fann, who has worked as a radio talk show host, says she’s very sensitive to first amendment rights and worked with attorneys who work with the media to write the bill, so it would not step on those rights.
