Wild Burros Shot Near Lake Pleasant

Federal officials are looking for the people who shot and killed two wild burros in an area north of Phoenix Sunday afternoon. Pamela Mathis of the Bureau of Land Management said it is unclear why the burros were shot just west of Castle Hot Springs Road, in a popular area not far from Lake Pleasant.

“It is illegal and against the law to shoot burros, and this is punishable by $2,000 or a year imprisoning," said Mathis.

Mathis said it does not matter where the burros are, they are protected, and it is a federal crime to shoot or harm them.
